Cigarettes—Cannabis

OTRU practicum student Alanna Chu used the International Cannabis Policy Survey to show differences in how cannabis and tobacco are mixed varies by policies. Edible use was associated with less tobacco mixing.

Michael Chaiton argues that stigma needs to be overcome by increased acceptance and that person-first language may hinder that process.

OTRU PhD student Daniel Eisenkraft-Klein led a paper examining the conflicting perspectives on tobacco harm reduction finding that the majority of meanings attached to tobacco harm reduction were rooted in values, ideology, politics, and opinions, rather than straightforward disagreements about the scientific evidence.

E-Cigarettes—Flavours

A systematic review of the role of flavours of e-cigarettes to assist smoking cessation found inconclusive results. In the 29 papers studies, there was little evidence to show flavours supported or hindered cessation.

Industry—Cost

UCSF researchers examined the cost-effectiveness of the Californian Tobacco Control Program from 1989-2019 and found that it was associated with a cost savings of $544 billion cumulatively over this period.
