The following is a monthly list of selected journal articles and reports on tobacco topics. Please note that this list is not all-inclusive. We try to choose titles of interest to our tobacco control network, but we realize that there are many relevant articles that are not listed. Archived issues of Current Abstracts are also available.

Hot Topics

Cessation—Pharmacological

A large, randomized control trial in Australia found that cytisine was equivalent to varenicline in a smoking cessation trial suggests that cystisine—a much cheaper drug than varenicline with fewer side effects—could play an important role in smoking cessation systems.

Industry—Flavours

Menthol cigarette smokers were 50% less likely to be abstinent at 12 months compared to non-menthol cigarette smokers, suggesting that removing menthol can improve menthol cigarette smokers’ success in smoking cessation.
