OTRU

OTRU published two articles on e-cigarettes this month. Rui Fu led a study showing that smokers who used e-cigarettes to quit reported better experiences on their social support for using e-cigarettes and side effects experienced. Navitha Jayakumar found that seeing people use e-cigarettes was the strongest predictor of e-cigarette initiation.

Health Effects—COVID-19

Two studies were published on the association of smoking and risk of COVID-19.  Inconsistent results have been found previously, possibly because of selection bias. These studies were able to overcome the main effects of selection bias through cohort studies that identified smoking prior to onset of COVID-19, and found that greater levels of smoking history were associated with both onset and adverse outcomes.
