Cessation—Pharmacological

CAMH and OTRU researchers conducted a study in rural Canadian areas in which smokers were randomly called and asked if they were interested in quitting. Those who agreed were randomized to receiving NRT, and the study found that receiving NRT was associated with increased quit rates. This study shows that reaching out to smokers in the community and providing smoking cessation medication can be an effective intervention even in rural areas.
