Hot Topics

Tobacco Industry—E-Cigarettes

The American Journal of Public Health published a commentary authored by 15 former presidents of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (Balfour et al.) arguing that too much of the messaging around e-cigarettes has been focused on the potential harms to youth and that regulation may affect adult use of e-cigarettes in quit attempts. In a counterpoint, Jon Samet and Jessica Barrington-Trimis suggest that the authors are failing to account for the trade-offs inherent in using e-cigarettes as a harm reduction strategy.
