An editorial in the Lancet addresses the FDA announcement that they would begin regulating the amount of nicotine in cigarettes. Stephens in Tobacco Control attempts to quantify the relative harm associated with vapourizing or smoking nicotine and finds a hierarchy of harm. West and colleagues in England estimate that e-cigarettes have led to approximately an additional 20,000 long-term quitters in England. Apollonio and Glantz examine the research on NRT in the tobacco industry documents and find that although initially there was concern that selling NRT would trigger FDA regulation of cigarettes, tobacco companies have begun to produce their own products.
