Comprehensive tobacco control includes age-related restrictions on access to tobacco products. These restrictions target young people who, as a group, are vulnerable to smoking initiation. This update reviews youth access provisions by provincial, territorial and federal jurisdiction and notes that all U.S. states have laws against the sale of tobacco to underage persons. Most other countries have a minimum age of 18 or 19.
