A collaboration between OTRU and Health Canada examined tobacco industry wholesale data to assess the impact of flavor regulations in Canada from 2009/2010. These regulations primarily affected flavours in small cigars and cigarillos. This analysis showed that the regulations were associated with changing the trend of sales of cigars although there were a number of industry adaptations that limited the effectiveness of the law, particularly relabeling of cigar products.

Scientists at George Washington University in collaboration with Stan Glantz found that e-cigarette use was independently associated with myocardial infarction. A study of US smokers found no evidence that e-cigarettes were associated with cessation. A review of tobacco industry contraband prevalence data out of the University of Bath found that industry estimates of contraband were unreliable sources of evidence.
