OTRU recognizes that involving students and
graduates early in their careers is an essential strategy in developing
the next generation of researchers and practitioners with a commitment
to tobacco control.
Tobacco and Public Health:
From Theory to Practice is a
comprehensive and evidence-based online course on tobacco control for
public health professionals and others working in tobacco control.
The graduate-level course Tobacco
and Health: From Cells to Society is offered via video conferencing
to students across Canada through the Graduate Department of
the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. This
course provides students with a comprehensive overview of tobacco and

Graduate and practicum students may conduct their thesis research under
the supervision of OTRU Investigators and complete their field practica
at OTRU.
There are a number of key sources for funding students interested in tobacco control research, including: Ashley Studentships for Research in Tobacco Control, CIHR Strategic Training Program in Tobacco Research (STPTR) - Training Grant, CIHR Strategic Training Program in Tobacco Use in Special Populations (STPTUSP) and Scholar Program for ICE-Related Research in Tobacco Control (SPICE Program)
