OTRU provides funding for students through The Ashley Studentships for Research in Tobacco Control. The purpose of the studentships is to increase the tobacco research capacity in Ontario by developing a future generation of tobacco researchers and practitioners. Studentships of up to $7,200 each are awarded in two competitions each year.
To date, over 79 studentships have been awarded to students from academic programs in the health sciences, social sciences and humanities at post-secondary institutions across Ontario.
Eligibility criteria:
- Completed at least three years of university education
- Currently enrolled in a program of study at a university in Ontario
- Academic research that is pertinent to tobacco control with preference given to projects that are relevant to one of the priority areas identified by OTRU
- Mentored by a university affiliated sponsor
The Ashley Studentship program does not restrict recipients from holding other awards concurrently.
Application schedule and materials for the spring 2008 Ashley Studentship Award are now available. The application deadline is March 31, 2008.
