Developed by Dr. Roberta Ferrence, Dr. Joanna Cohen and, Dr. Scott Leatherdale, the graduate-level course Tobacco and Health: From Cells to Society is offered through the Graduate Department of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of tobacco and tobacco-related issues from a public health perspective.
Using state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology, the course is offered to students at the Universities of Toronto, Waterloo, British Columbia, and Lakehead, with plans for future expansion to other institutions.
The course is an elective of the Collaborative Program in Addiction Studies (COPAS) at the University of Toronto. OTRU is one of the sponsoring units of COPAS, along with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse. The COPAS program integrates graduate training in the multidisciplinary field of addictions, including the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other psychoactive substances, as well as gambling and other addictive behaviours.
