Directory of Public Use Data on Tobacco Use in Canada
This directory of public use data sets has been prepared to help researchers and students locate high quality Canadian data on smoking and tobacco.
The directory provides the following information for each listing:
- LOCATION of the data set (e.g., Statistics Canada, York University)
- DESCRIPTION of the survey
- REPORTS/PUBLICATIONS list associated with the survey or data
- TECHNICAL INFORMATION about the survey
- COSTS to obtain the data and/or reports
- CONTACT PERSON(S) or department and
- RESTRICTIONS on use of the data (such as licensing agreements)
This directory will be useful to those who want to access micro data files for their research or work.

Searchable Database of Questionnaire Items from Population Surveys of Tobacco Use in Canada
This searchable database of Canadian population based surveys contains over one thousand tobacco related questions, and is intended to provide researchers and program evaluators with reliable and valid survey questions that will allow comparisons with other jurisdictions. The current database contains questions gathered from 55 national, provincial and local surveys conducted between 1977 and 2007.
The database can be searched by several general categories including:
- YEAR
- SURVEY TITLE
- KEY WORDS
The results of the search can be exported or sent directly to print. Accompanying documentation contains installation instructions, a glossary of terms and definitions used in describing the surveys, seven pages of references and a list of the keywords.
The database is available in Microsoft Access 2000.
