Tobacco Control for the 21st Century

 

The Ontario Tobacco Research Unit is pleased to host an exciting and dynamic conference that will focus on research, monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge exchange. This meeting will provide a forum for development of a national research agenda, and provide opportunities for networking and the exchange of ideas among the research community, policy makers and practitioners in tobacco control communities across Canada.

The conference will be held over 2 ½ days, Monday morning November 10 to Wednesday noon November 12, and will consist of daily Plenary Sessions with international keynote speakers, Concurrent Working Sessions and Poster Sessions.

Conference Objectives:

  1. To discuss the current state of evidence and what future evidence is needed to advance comprehensive tobacco control with a view to:

    1. Stimulating innovation in research and evaluation
    2. Consolidating the evidence in research and evaluation
    3. Developing tools and resources for research and evaluation
  2. To produce scientific output that will inform the Canadian research and evaluation agenda for comprehensive tobacco control.

Participants:

This conference is geared towards:

  • Researchers and evaluators from across Canada and beyond with active interests in tobacco control research, monitoring and surveillance, and evaluation
  • Graduate students from across Canada with active interests in this area

To attend this conference, participants must be part of an accepted Letter of Intent for a Concurrent Working Session OR first author of an accepted Poster Abstract.

Program:

The conference will be held over 2 ½ days, Monday, November 10 to Wednesday noon November 12 and will consist of daily Plenary Sessions with international keynote speakers, Concurrent Working Sessions and Poster Sessions. We anticipate approximately 250 participants.

There will be up to 8 daily Concurrent Working Sessions, organized for up to 50 participants each, including observers, for either one full day (5 hours over two sessions) or two full days (10 hours over four sessions). These sessions must produce scientific products, such as funding proposals, papers for submission to peer-reviewed publications, sets of recommendations, or expert panel consensus statements.

Travel Expenses:

We will cover travel and accommodation costs for session organizers and graduate students. We also hope to provide travel subsidies to other participants depending on available funding.
